VISION TO REALITY

Prof. Amnon Shashua

Prof. Amnon Shashua is the president and CEO of Mobileye and a professor of computer science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In 2023, in recognition for his exceptional contributions to society, he received the Israel Prize for Lifetime Achievement, the highest civilian honor in the country. His work in AI and mobility also earned him the 2020 Dan David Prize laureate in the field of Artificial Intelligence and the 2022 Mobility Innovator from the Automotive Hall of Fame.

In 1999, Shashua co-founded Mobileye on the then-radical idea that a single camera, powered by computer vision, could enable safe, scalable driver assistance. The company went public in 2014 with what was then the largest IPO in Israel’s history, was acquired by Intel in 2017 for $15.3 billion, and returned to the public markets in 2022 under the Nasdaq ticker MBLY.
Prof. Shashua holds the Sachs Chair in Computer Science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where his research focuses on computer vision and machine learning. In these fields he has published over 160 papers and holds over 90 patents.

Alongside his academic career and the founding of Mobileye, Shashua has built a dynamic portfolio of AI ventures, pioneering breakthroughs in large language models, robotics, and more. In 2010, he cofounded OrCam Technologies, a developer of AI-based assistive tools that support greater independence for the visually and hearing-impaired. OrCam devices have been named TIME Best Inventions in 2019, 2021 and 2024.

In 2017, he co-founded AI21 Labs, a leader in enterprise-grade language models. In 2019, he launched One Zero, Israel’s first fully digital bank, built from the ground up with AI at its core. In 2021, Shashua co-founded Mentee Robotics, focused on developing autonomous humanoid robots for homes and industrial settings. His latest venture, AAI Technologies, was founded together with Prof. Shai Shalev-Shwartz in 2024, with a mission to crack the code of superintelligence.

In 2019, Shashua was recognized as the Electronic Imaging (EI) Scientist of the Year by the Society for Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T) for his pivotal contributions to computer vision and machine learning, and for advancing autonomous driving and wearable assistive devices for the blind and visually impaired. Shashua and his Mobileye team were also finalists in the European Inventor Awards of 2019, awarded by the European Patent Office, for their advanced driver assistance technology which is making roads safer worldwide.
